Join world-renowned researcher and clinician Prof. Dr. Maurício Araújo for an exclusive full-day masterclass in London.

Prof. Araújo is one of the founding figures behind the concept of Ridge Preservation and one of the world’s most cited authorities in implant and periodontal research. With landmark studies he revolutionized our understanding of post-extraction healing, socket morphology, and peri-implant tissue stability. His pioneering research has laid the scientific foundation for many of today’s clinical protocols in implant dentistry.

This course will cover three highly relevant and challenging topics in modern implant dentistry:

1. Tooth Extraction Reinvented: Minimally Invasive Strategies for Maximum Bone Preservation

Post-extraction bone resorption can complicate implant placement and affect esthetics. This session will explore minimally invasive extraction techniques aimed at preserving ridge dimensions, supported by clinical case examples.

2. Peri-Implantitis Uncovered: Navigating the Challenges of Diagnosis, Treatment, and Long-Term Maintenance

Peri-implantitis continues to be one of the most pressing challenges in implant dentistry. In this lecture, Prof. Araújo demystifies the complexities behind this inflammatory condition affecting the tissues around dental implants.

3. Slim but Strong: Mastering the Use of Narrow Diameter Implants in All Regions of the Jaw

With increasing patient demands for minimally invasive options and anatomical constraints in implant therapy, narrow diameter implants (NDIs) have become a critical tool in the modern clinician’s arsenal. Learn how to confidently place and restore NDIs without compromising on strength, function, or aesthetics.

I. Peri-Implantitis Uncovered: Navigating the Challenges of Diagnosis, Treatment, and Long-Term Maintenance

Biological complications such as peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis remain some of the most significant challenges in modern implant dentistry. While mucositis involves inflammation of the soft tissues around an implant, peri-implantitis leads to progressive bone loss and jeopardizes implant stability. The diagnosis, treatment and prevention of these conditions are a significant challenge for current implant dentistry. Thus, the aim of this lecture will be to discuss

  • the diagnosis of peri-implant disease
  • the challenges of implant surface decontamination
  • the role of keratinized mucosa and
  • the best clinical protocol for long-term maintenance of peri-implant tissue health.

II. Tooth Extraction Reinvented: Minimally Invasive Strategies for Maximum Bone Preservation

Post-extraction bone resorption represents a challenge for clinicians. It may lead to aesthetic problems and more complex implant installation due to dimensional alterations of the ridge. Thus, the concept of preventing bone loss following tooth extraction is very attractive. This lecture will describe minimally invasive tooth extraction techniques that are a fundamental surgical step in minimizing post-extraction ridge reduction. Clinical cases that illustrate the surgical techniques and clinical outcomes will be presented and discussed.

  • The biological basis of post-extraction bone resorption
  • How ridge reduction impacts esthetic and functional outcomes

  • Step-by-step minimally invasive extraction techniques

  • Strategies to preserve ridge dimensions after tooth removal

  • Clinical case examples showing real-world application

  • Tips to reduce the need for advanced grafting procedures

III. Slim but Strong: Mastering the Use of Narrow Diameter Implants in All Regions of the Jaw

Narrow Diameter Implants (NDIs) are increasingly used to meet the demands of compromised sites and minimally invasive protocols. Prof. Araújo will guide you through:

  • The biological and clinical rationale for using narrow diameter implants
  • How alveolar ridge resorption post-extraction supports the use of narrower implants
  • Advantages of narrow implants: reduced need for bone augmentation and osteotomy
  • Overview of implant materials: commercially pure titanium vs. alloys
  • Review of clinical and retrospective studies on narrow implant outcomes
  • Evidence supporting predictable performance even in molar regions
  • Analysis of marginal bone loss and clinical success parameters

    Learning Objectives

Understand the biological mechanisms and risk factors contributing to peri-implantitis, and apply evidence-based diagnostic and treatment strategies for both early and advanced cases

Evaluate the indications, biomechanics, and clinical outcomes of narrow diameter implants (NDIs) in both anterior and posterior regions, and incorporate NDIs safely into treatment planning for cases with limited bone volume.

Identify the anatomical and histological changes that occur after tooth extraction, and apply ridge preservation techniques to minimize bone resorption and optimize implant site development.

Differentiate between immediate and delayed implant placement protocols, and understand how ridge preservation can support both strategies based on patient-specific conditions.

Critically assess clinical cases involving post-extraction healing, peri-implantitis management, and use of narrow implants, and make informed decisions to improve long-term implant success and tissue stability.
